I just had the pleasure of reading my new copy of "Teaching the Students of the 2020s" by Mr. Bruce Hansen, which arrived on my desk this morning at Warner Pacific University.   My take on this book is that it provides practical and easy-to-implement ways to reframe and change pedagogical and behavioral approaches for positive student outcomes. The book is accurately recommended for new teachers and my colleagues, and I believe it to be a must-read for teacher candidates. It is also one I wish I had access to for teachers who may have needed support in operating a successful classroom program.  Bruce's style of writing is direct, succinct, and easily understood, with solid real-world anecdotes that serve to remind veteran teachers and encourage new teachers to incorporate culturally responsive classroom management and student engagement techniques based on cognitive science and decades of classroom experience.

"Teaching the Students of the 2020’s: Classroom Wisdom From a Master Teacher seeks to unpack the most foundational aspects of teaching. Topics are explored which will positively impact the classroom environment for both teachers and their students. As indicated in this book, It is crucial that first and foremost the most effective teachers can identify their own identities in the classroom, their teacher voice and presence. By providing time to evaluate their own health and wellness, it is only then can they have meaningful relationships with students, families and colleagues. In his book, Bruce Hansen outlines numerous strategies and approaches to enable teachers to create a safe, engaging and exciting environment for students. His many anecdotes, illustrations and quotes provide authentic examples of the situations that teachers encounter daily and how they can be approached with professionalism and compassion. As seen in this book, by utilizing differentiation in both academics and relationships with students, we will meet their needs and create a learning environment that will motivate students and help them to feel successful. The 3 R’s of classroom interactions are highlighted and elaborated upon: routines, relationships and rules (expectations). The book is well-organized and enables the reader to access the valuable information that is provided. This wisdom that comes from his many years in the classroom is truly evident in the topics, writing style, and advice offered on this readable book."
